Detroit Pistons Struggle After Grueling Back-to-Back Schedule #

Generally, NBA teams playing back-to-back games fly directly to their next city after the first game, arriving in the early morning. However, the Detroit Pistons faced travel delays returning from Indianapolis, leading to exhaustion. Playing an NBA Cup game the night before compounded their fatigue. These games have increased urgency, with winning team players earning $500,000 last season.

The team’s energy was depleted by the time they reached their beds at around 5 a.m., contributing to their lackluster performance against the Philadelphia 76ers later that day. Detroit allowed Philadelphia to start the game on a 22-7 run, leading to a 111-96 loss.

Detroit has played 22 games this season, the most in the league, and their record is 1-4 on the second night of back-to-backs. With 10 more back-to-backs this season, they must improve their approach.

Despite the challenges, Malik Beasley led Detroit in scoring with 19 points. He ranks third in the NBA for made 3-pointers, trailing only All-Stars Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball. Jaden Ivey contributed 15 points and five assists, while Wendell Moore Jr. scored 11 points.

“We started off slow but at the end of the day we are the ones out there on the floor.” The Pistons will rest on Sunday before practicing and hosting the Milwaukee Bucks in another NBA Cup game, facing undefeated teams in Group B.
